Veblen I preformed it at arts and crafts in Carmel." Later infor-
mation from HC via SRC's hand in CD: "Performance was June 10,
1913."
 F Nine months later HC played this work at the recital he considered
the beginning of his professional career as pianist and composer, the
first one that was reviewed by the press: a musical matinee in the
music room of the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, under the
auspices of the San Francisco Musical Club (not the Society), 5 Mar
1914. There were reviews in the 6 Mar 1914 issues of the San Fran-
cisco Examiner (p7, coll) and the San Francisco Chronicle (p5) [lat-
ter not in last edition, used for microfilming].
