F By 17 Sep 1953 the materials had been delivered to F. Charles Adier,
the conductor who commissioned the work, for on that date HC wrote
Nicolas Slonimsky that his 10th was still unperformed. Comprehen-
sive searches in Israel, Vienna, and elsewhere disclosed no performance
and no "Israel-Tour." On 28 Jun 1954 HC wrote Slonimsky that the
10th had not been played yet but would be recorded in Jan 1955.
That recording session took place, and the record issued by Unicom
Records (UNLP-1008 and UNLP-1045). The first public performance
probably was not until 24 Feb 1957, when the City Symphony of New
York, cond. Franz Bibo, played it at the American Museum of Natural
History, though claiming only "1st American performance."
