798 Hymn and Fuguing Tune No. 10, for Carillon
[No tempo mark]
D [1952-53?] Commissioned for a carillon work, HC struggled man-
fully in 1952-53 and brought forth the following:
M (a) Hymn apparently complete in extent in 31m, plus D. C., on Ip.
There is no fuguing tune.
(b) Brief sketches with no. 795
C HC abandoned the undertaking because he "could not hear the sound
of the bells in his mind clearly enough" (SRC on a caption laid in).
Even before he abandoned the idea he had been quoted (allegedly
in an ACA Bulletin) as saying "It won't be an eyebrow raiser." The
ultimate No. 10 in this series is no. 813.
