278 There is a Light [for voice and piano]
Allegretto con moto
D Jun 1919 (CD 230). A birthday song "dedicated to Mrs. Veblen" (cap-
tion). For consistency in the numbering order HC's CD date of June
1919 has been used here, but it is probably wrong. According to her
death certificate, Ellen Roife Veblen was born on 13 May 1859; HC's
chitchat makes no reference to an approaching discharge from the Ar-
my, which took place on 6 Jun 1919, though it is possible he had not
yet had news of it. Best guess: early May 1919.
