M Fragment 1: pencil draft incomplete in 29m on "pl2" with no. 397
(a page much older in appearance than the pages containing no. 397).
On 4 staves: 3 treble, 1 bass. Staff 1 has two melodic lines for the
violin, one marked for performance with the first strain, the other
for use in the repetition. Staff 2 has a mostly chordal accompaniment
for the piano right hand in the first strain; staff 3 has essentially the
same pattern an octave lower for the repetition. Staff 4 has the piano
bass for both renditions.
Fragment 2: llm of pencil draft for a full close, for violin only, on
top of p3 of pencil sketches for no. 305 (see mfm 308A).
344 Allegro and Burden [for voice and piano]
(1) Allegro, pi
(2) Burden, p2 (verso)
 D [1916-21?]
T According to SRC, an early Christmas text: "Whaunce that eriy storm
came down . . . "; HC's source unknown.
M The handwriting as well as the text seems archaic, but SRC evidences
no doubt about the MS being HC's work. The Allegro is complete
in 8m and the Burden in 12m, one on each side of a half-leaf of
manuscript paper.
