221a Some Music [for orchestra]

 D 1922 (CD 264). Begun in 1914-15, and using some material from the
abandoned no. 147, this work seems to have been intended from the
beginning for orchestra; the piano version apparently has not survived
and has not been seen on HC recital programs.

 F This work not only is for an unusual combination of instruments but
also is one of the first in which HC tried out his theories of "rhythm
harmony," linking the pitch and duration of tones. He recorded it
as completed in CD in September 1917, but not until 18 May 1978
was there a public performance of the entire work in the way he had
